It’s vital that we start and continue the conversation around mental health, now more than ever. I encourage you to reach out to your friends, colleagues and neighbors to ask them how they’re really doing.
Asking for help hurt the ego pretty good, but people were there to help and it changed my life. A huge weight off my shoulders.
Listen attentively. Show them that you understand and express kindness and compassion. Ask how you can support them and resist jumping in to problem-solve. You don’t have to have the answers. Try saying something like: “There’s help available; we’ll find it together. Feeling supported is often not about what the other person has said……it is how the other person made you feel.
Familiarize yourself with the supports available to better be able to direct and encourage others to use those supports that may be appropriate for their needs.
Mental health is an undeniably important matter, yet most people don’t have access to the resources they need when they need help. We have compiled a list of resources for anyone seeking information about and/or help for a range of topics.
Mental health is so important because it encompasses everything in our lives. It impacts our thinking, our feeling, our actions and our behaviours.
The more we feel comfortable talking about our mental health, the more we're able to find the solutions and the resources that are necessary to help us along the way.
It’s not a weakness, it’s a strength to be able to know you’re struggling with your mental health.
